An outlier always finds its place out of place
Nous consacrons notre quatrième article de notre carnet de création Constellations à An outlier always finds its place out of place d’Adam Basanta. Cette oeuvre a été commandé par Magnitude6 avec le soutien du Conseil des arts du Canada.
An outlier is a person or thing situated away or detached from the main body or group that it is a part of. The outlier distinguishes itself by exhibiting behaviours or tendencies which go against the dominant trend. In a musical context, an outlier instrumentalist can contrast the dominant material of the remaining ensemble.
But can a musical outlier be so out of place, that it perceptually « fits », becoming an integral part of a singular musical texture? Can an outlier find its place out of place?
